Microsoft responds to EPA’s Clean Power Plan rule

This country needs strong energy and climate policies to address the serious threat of climate change, while also bolstering American competitiveness, innovation and job growth. Unfortunately, today’s Affordable Clean Energy rule released by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is a step in the wrong direction. By effectively reversing the Clean Power Plan, the rule weakens regulations on carbon emissions in the power sector.

Climate change is one of the most important issues of our time and the science is increasingly clear that we have a very limited amount of time to address it in a meaningful way. Microsoft is committed to building a more sustainable, just and prosperous future by acting on climate change. In addition to action that the private sector is taking, we believe that government can and should play a role. It’s time for a serious national discussion on carbon pricing and other climate policies that address climate change and support the economy.
