Last Thursday, Microsoft hosted the second LiveWire event in partnership with The Seattle Times at its Redmond, Washington campus. Building on the first LiveWire event on early learning programs in Washington state, last week’s discussion was, “A Bridge to China: Exploring the Northwest’s future with the East.”

Moderated by The Seattle Times economics columnist, Jon Talton, more than 450 community members came together to hear the panel of speakers including Gary Locke, former Washington state governor and U.S. Ambassador to China; Brad Smith, Microsoft’s executive vice president and general counsel; Michael Young, president of the University of Washington; and Ray Conner, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Attendees walked away with a greater understanding of the Pacific Northwest’s opportunities to strengthen ties with China. Panelists agreed that, despite some obstacles involved in doing business in China, the potential economic and cultural benefits of a greater partnership are great.
