Welcome to Mi Día, a series focused on sharing a day in the life of Hispanic and Latinx employees at Microsoft. From representing nuestras raíces y cultura to tackling tech challenges, we’re here to share our Microsoft adventures. So, grab your cafecito, and let’s dive into the journey of being Hispanic and Latinx at Microsoft.
Raised in New York City by Mexican immigrant parents, Alexis Tenorio developed a deep love for la comunidad, which he now proudly represents at Microsoft’s Employee Resource Group (ERG) focused on empowering young Hispanic and Latinx employees. Alexis began his journey at Microsoft as a product marketing manager intern and now works as a global product marketing manager. Based in Seattle, he recently traveled to the Microsoft Experience Center in New York City as a spokesperson for Microsoft Surface for an event to launch Surface Copilot+ PCs.
7:00 AM
I love starting my day by going to the gym or jogging around South Lake Union, a wonderful and vibrant area of Seattle, WA. After that, I go back home and get ready for my workday by checking my email and organizing my calendar. I do hybrid work, so on some days I go to the office and on some others I work remotely.
8:00 AM
I usually cook breakfast for myself, so I make something simple like scrambled eggs with avocado and turkey bacon on toasted bread. I sometimes choose to grab breakfast on my drive to the Microsoft office to work for the day. However, the one thing I always have in the morning is iced coffee to fuel me up.
9:00 AM
My mornings at work usually consist of catching up on emails for the day. I always keep a notepad next to me to write down relevant ideas, tasks, and events, and then I prioritize them later. I also like to color-coordinate my calendar to see what’s a priority, what can be pushed out, or what can be communicated via email.
12:00 PM After our biweekly in-person meeting, my team likes to grab lunch together. Depending on my schedule, other days I am able to grab lunch with friends or on my own.
1:00 PM
My afternoons at work consist of meetings with stakeholders across different teams, like product managers, the finance team, and engineers, to check in on different projects. I also meet with industrial designers to discuss programs that will launch soon or to discuss future products and features they might have. For example, lately my work has been toward the launch of the all-new Surface Copilot+ PCs and Surface Pro Flex Keyboard, the first wireless keyboard with a Copilot key. Being the Product Marketing Manager for the 2-in-1 keyboard and pen offers me the opportunity to travel on trips across the country to demo our products.
5:30 PM
Aside from my regular job responsibilities, I usually take some time to participate in two Employee Resource Group (ERG) chapters at Microsoft as part of their social committees. One being Out in Marketing, an LGBTQIA+ group for those in marketing, and SOMOS, a chapter of the Hispanic/Latinx ERG focused on early-in-career employees. Outside of work, I love taking pictures of things that catch my eye, and I’ve begun exploring the world of photography. I also love spending time with friends and going to trivia nights with them. I might also go for a walk by the pier if I’m feeling like it.
7:00 PM
I love trying out new restaurants and coffee shops that I find on social media. There’s a Mexican restaurant called El Moose and a coffee shop in the University District called Leon Coffee House that I love going to. Despite being away from my family, I’m still very close with them, which helps me stay even more connected with my Mexican heritage. My family is from Mexico City and Puebla, but a lot of the friends that I’ve made here are from all over, so I’ve traveled with them to different parts of Mexico. My next trip is to Guadalajara in December.
10:00 PM
Finally, it’s bedtime. I like to wind down by watching some Netflix before going to bed.
That’s a snapshot of my day-to-day, balancing work, life, friends, exercise and all the things I hold dear, as a Microsoft employee.
