Office everywhere: More great news for Office on iOS and Android

Last week, we saw the new experiences coming with Windows 10, including how Office universal apps for Windows 10 will deliver new touch scenarios for the smallest devices all the way up to Microsoft Surface Hub. This came on the heels of our recent Office for iPhone release and Office for iPad update, as well as the Preview of Office for Android tablets. These are all important steps toward our goal of bringing the power of Office everywhere – to everyone, on every device.

To date, we’ve seen more than 80 million downloads of Office on iPhone and iPad worldwide. The Office apps remain in the Top 10 Best Productivity Apps category with a 4+ rating. Since the Office for Android tablet preview release, these apps have received a tremendous response, earning a 4+ rating. The preview generated more than 250 thousand downloads of the Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps across 33 languages and more than 110 countries, helping us refine and improve the product. This customer feedback has been critical to ensuring a high quality and consistent Office experience across the broad Android ecosystem.

With these releases, we’ve only scratched the surface of what’s possible as we work to reinvent productivity for a mobile-first, cloud-first world — and today, we are making two important announcements that continue this journey.

First, we are pleased to announce that we’re removing the “preview” label from our Office for Android apps. As of today, Word for Android tablet, Excel for Android tablet and PowerPoint for Android tablet will be available in the Google Play store as free downloads. These apps join the highly rated OneNote for Android, as well. We are also committed to supporting the Intel chipsets via a native implementation that will be available within a quarter.

If you’re a consumer, just download the free apps from the Google Play store and then log in with your Microsoft Account to create files, print and perform day-to-day editing for free. To access premium features, sign up for an Office 365 subscription. If you are a business or organizational user, the Android tablet is now another device on which you can use Office, logging in with your Office 365 business credentials.
