Recap — Machine Eatable with Jake Hofman (DS3)

| John Paul Farmer and Gemma Torras Vives

This March, we re-launched our monthly Machine Eatable series, a lunchtime data science discussion at Civic Hall. This monthly lunch-and- learn series offers a candid conversation led by a data scientist around the latest happenings on the front lines of data science for social good. This month, we were honored to host our very own Jake Hofman, a Senior Researcher at Microsoft who leads the Data Science Summer School (DS3), and former DS3 student Ilana Radinsky, who presented and discussed the program’s goals and fascinating projects. Participation was off the charts, both in attendance and discussion. Attendees asked in-depth questions on the work of DS3, including specific questions on the data sources, findings, methodologies, students’ backgrounds and trajectory, as well as next steps for the research.
