According to the report “Women in Stem: 2017 Update” released by the U.S. Department of Commerce, women are underrepresented in STEM jobs. Even women with STEM degrees are less likely to work in a STEM occupation, holding a position in education or healthcare.

At Microsoft, we believe that more diverse teams create greater innovations. With this in mind, we strive to be a leader in attracting women to careers in high tech. So, when Modern Muse needed to be relaunched, Microsoft was there to support.

Modern Muse has become a platform to challenge those statistics and encourage women and girls, of all ages and races, to pursue their dreams with courage and support. The website brings more than 100 female role models, who share their experiences of work in the hope of inspiring youngsters to find a path to their dream job.

Founded in 2009 the platform has now been revamped by interns and apprentices at Microsoft to mark this year’s International Day of the Girl.

Girls can access the Modern Muse website to explore subject choices and learn about the muses’ responsibilities, career paths and the subjects they studied while at school, what it’s like to work at certain companies and career opportunities.
