The ability to mine increasingly relevant data – and then analyze it to predict future outcomes – is one of the most compelling benefits of the Internet of Things. Today, Microsoft announced that it will acquire Revolution Analytics, a move that promises to increase capabilities for advanced analytics within Microsoft data platforms, whether on-premises, in hybrid cloud environments and on Microsoft Azure. The company is a leading commercial provider of software and services for R, a widely-used programming language for predictive analytics.
“I am incredibly excited about Revolution Analytics technology and employees joining Microsoft,” writes Joseph Sirosh, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Information Management & Machine Learning. “I firmly believe that we are at the threshold of a revolution in information technology driven by the use of statistics and scientific analyses on big data.” You can read more about the acquisition on the Official Microsoft Blog.
