This week, TreeHugger reported on a company called Bombora Wave Power, an Australian company and a 2013 winner of GE’s Ecomagination Challenge, who is strategizing how to develop a “wave-based technology that is economically competitive with onshore wind power generation, which is currently the lowest cost renewable energy source.” Bombora has been self-funding their research project. Now with the help of GE’s Ecomagination, the company plans to accelerate their development schedule. Wave energy is a fairly undeveloped resource, and companies such as Bombora, among others, have the potential to discover a very innovative approach to energy.
In other energy news, SmartPlanet reported on two innovations in energy including recyclable solar cells, which use substances derived from plants and trees, and how scientists can turn carbon dioxide into industrial products by mimicking the process of how plants turn carbon dioxide in the atmosphere into energy. While these processes are still in the early stages of development, this early research demonstrates an interest in pursuing alternative energy through creative and innovative methods.
