Washington State Recycling Association Honors Microsoft

| Josh Henretig

The Washington State Recycling Association announced this week that it is honoring a number of Washington-based organizations for their recycling achievements at the annual Recyclers of the Year Awards Banquet next month in Spokane. Microsoft is honored to have been included on the list, which also includes organizations ranging from Stevens Pass Mountain Resort to the City of Bellevue.

Microsoft was cited for a range of its sustainability efforts, including carpet recycling and compostable cutlery in our cafeterias. Our decision to label trash cans with “landfill” helped divert 80 percent of Microsoft’s waste from landfill disposal in 2011. The WSRA also acknowledged our Sustainability Champions Program, which has enlisted over 650 employees across Microsoft to play an active role in reducing energy consumption, conserving water and diverting waste from landfills.

At Microsoft we intend to continue improving on our recycling efforts so we can ensure that we divert more waste each year away from our state’s landfills.
