Transforming the World with ICT

| Josh Henretig

In June the United Nations will convene the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, also known as Rio 2012 or Rio+20, hosted by Brazil in Rio de Janeiro, as a 20-year follow-up to the historic 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) that was held in the same city.

In the years since the first Summit, the productivity and creativity that the ICT industry has unleashed have truly transformed the world, and we expect to do the same over the next twenty years, playing a central role in enabling global sustainable growth.

Digital Energy Solutions Campaign (DESC) brings together information and communications technology (ICT) companies and associations, non-governmental organizations, customers and other stakeholders who recognize the enabling role that ICT plays in improving our environment and driving long-term economic growth. Microsoft and 22 other companies have recently partnered with DESC on a new report that gives a snapshot into what is coming and how the ICT industry is enabling the green economy of the future.clip_image004
