After a season of heavy rains in South Africa’s northern provinces, the Johannesburg Road Agency’s “Find ‘n Fix” app has been a welcome relief to motorists, who can point out any problems with road infrastructure with a few taps on their smartphone.
The app, built on Intervate’s Smart Citizen product, which uses Microsoft Azure, automatically geo-locates the road issue, creates a ticket for the maintenance team, and funnels the request into the agency’s workflow systems.
“With ‘Find ‘n Fix,’ we’ve proven the success of such a tool, but now we can start imagining the broader possibilities,” writes Marc Fletcher, Intervate manager of marketing and business development. “Citizens could quickly and easily report fires breaking out, overflowing refuse bins, burst water pipes, fallen trees and debris swept onto roads after a storm.”
