Pilot program wins award using TV white space to bring high-speed Internet to remote areas of the Philippines

A pilot program by Microsoft, the U.S. Agency for International Development and the Philippine government to bring high-speed, wireless Internet access to remote parts of the Philippines using TV white space has won the prestigious 2015 P3 Impact Award that recognizes model public-private partnerships (P3s) from around the world.

TV white space utilizes unused broadcast frequencies. Microsoft has been working to develop this breakthrough technology, and over the last several years has partnered in TV white space pilot programs with governments around the world, including in Botswana, Ghana, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya and Singapore.
