As you settle into some much-needed downtime over the holidays, you might be juggling several devices with family members – but whatever you’ve got in your hands, you should be able to get back to what you were doing. To help you make the most of that grab-and-go experience, we’ve gathered some apps and games that help you pick up where you left off – so you’re not tethered to any one device.
As long as you’ve got the app or game installed on your various devices and synced to the same account, you should be able to enjoy them seamlessly.
One thing I like doing on my days off is catching up on movies and TV shows. Start any streaming film or TV series on Netflix, Hulu Plus and Crackle on one device – like Xbox One or a tablet. And if and when you’re interrupted and have to give up that device, pause it. Then continue where you left off on another device – like, your Windows Phone device. With the Crackle app, there’s also an extra perk for Windows Phone and Windows users: getting exclusive access to their original programs a week before everyone else.
Maybe you feel like getting more actively involved in your off-work pursuits – being a player in a game like “Halo: Spartan Assault,” or “Skulls of the Shogun” or “Doodle Kingdom.” You can engage in combat against the Covenant, battle in the samurai afterlife or let your imagination run wild in a medieval fantasy world. You can work your way from your Windows Phone to a tablet or PC – and if you’re really lucky, some coveted time in front of the TV with Xbox.
Or, what if you can’t get away from work or school during the holidays and need to finish up a report or presentation? Thanks to SkyDrive, you can keep your documents synced in the cloud and share files with others. Then open and edit on your browser, PC or mobile device. You can even use it for fun – storing and sharing photos on SkyDrive of all your new holiday memories.
There is also a great companion app that can enhance your experience with Xbox One: Xbox SmartGlass. Use Xbox SmartGlass to connect and control your Xbox One, and stay connected with the games and gamers you like. You can use your device’s keyboard and touch controls to navigate your Xbox One console, and control your media and set top box with the SmartGlass remote control. You can also browse the Web on your TV using your mobile device.
You can find many more games and apps that are specifically designed to give you a great experience across different Microsoft platforms with the Better Together collection. Follow the links to find the games and apps mentioned in this story and enjoy your downtime during the holidays!
