Welcome, November! We’re grateful for all of the Civic Tech, Cybersecurity, and STEM events that are happening in Chicago this month. Join us at these top events around the city:

November 1-3
Code for America Summit
Oakland Marriott City Center 1001 Broadway, Oakland, CA 

The Code for America Summit is a roll-up-your-sleeves conference that brings together government innovators, civic-minded technologists, and entrepreneurs. It’ll be you and 1,200 of the most talented civic tech leaders taking over downtown Oakland, CA. Come with your passion for building a 21st-century government. Leave with the skills you need to do it.

We’ve put together a lineup of more than 200 speakers from the public, private, and non-profit sectors. They’re excited to share what’s working, what’s not, and what they’re learning along the way.

Hacking the Presidential Election: The Dimensions of Russian Interference

The stark differences between the two major-party candidates, both in terms of demeanor as well as policy, make November 8th a pivotal day for the future of the United States and the world. Join Patrik Maldre, Managing Partner at Retel Partners, and Toni Gidwani, Director of Research Operations at ThreatConnect, discuss their direct experience with election cyber security breaches.

Chicago Women Developers Hack Night

Minecraft Modding
6:30pm – 7:30pm

In this class, students will go over what they learned from “Spartan School”. Each child will provide a “Method” that modifies their Minecraft Avatar’s armor, inventory, and abilities. All the players will get to play against each other’s mods. This is the second class. If you were not in the first class, contact the host to make sure you are ready for this class before you RSVP.

Lunch and Learn: How to Prevent Sophisticated and Dangerous Attacks

Storytelling in Virtual Reality

This event features Angela Haddad, Founder and Creative Director of One Third Blue, a Virtual Reality art studio animating and producing hand-illustrated VR art experiences for fashion brands and magazines; and VR Producer for SilVR Thread, a VR startup specializing in first-person POV Virtual Reality technology.
