Today is the third annual #GivingTuesday, a social movement that encourages and enables personal philanthropy during the holiday season. As a founding sponsor of #GivingTuesday, Microsoft is proud to help take the movement global this year. We strongly believe that technology can help young people get a jumpstart in life. Teams in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Israel, Mexico, Singapore, the U.K., United States, and Latin America are joining forces to spread awareness around the “Everyone Starts Somewhere” campaign. You can join us by investing in young people that are dreaming big, and Microsoft will double your donation! Microsoft Stores will also distribute $10 donation gift cards with in-store purchases made on #GivingTuesday.
At Microsoft, giving is a year round activity. Since January, our Bay Area employees have donated 5,519 volunteer hours and $3,192,573 in our local communities and beyond, with 85% of our employees using Microsoft’s matching program to double their impact. On May 6, our partnership with Silicon Valley Community Foundation helped launch SVGives, the first Silicon Valley based online giving day. Nearly 15,000 individual donors contributed just over $8 million to non-profits in Silicon Valley on that day. We also launched a YouthSpark Grant Program this year that supports a cohort of four non-profit organizations focused on engaging female youth in STEM.
