November 1-3 — Code for America Summit

The Code for America Summit is a roll-up-your-sleeves conference that brings together government innovators, civic-minded technologists, and entrepreneurs. It’ll be you and 1,200 of the most talented civic tech leaders taking over downtown Oakland, CA. Come with your passion for building a 21st-century government. Leave with the skills you need to do it.

We’ve put together a lineup of more than 200 speakers from the public, private, and non-profit sectors. They’re excited to share what’s working, what’s not, and what they’re learning along the way.

November 2-3 — Virtual Reality Developers Conference

November 3 — Global Demo Day 2016 & Startup Bash

Global Demo Day is the yearly capstone technology and networking event of Silicon Valley. With 100+ investors in attendance, and a startup portfolio valuation of $40M, it’s your chance to see the next tech giants pitch and compete for their chance at the crown (literally).

November 3 — Women Speak Tech: San Francisco Speak Up

Amazing things happen when we share key learnings and experiences. Meet up with a cross section of powerful digital media thought leaders and industry peers. Enjoy this free event and be ready to exchange views, explore pain points, weigh-in on vendors and size up innovative approaches when solving the disruptive and challenging aspects that come with content production, management, distribution and storage. Join the discussion!

November 5 — Generation Citizen Civic Tech Challenge

At Generation Citizen’s second annual Bay Area Civic Tech Challenge, we’re bringing together top Bay Area tech innovators with passionate middle and high school students for a day-long hackathon that will create solutions for some of the Bay Area’s toughest problems. Young people from the Generation Citizen action civics program connect with developers, digital marketers, graphic designers, data analysts and more to build civic tech innovations that accelerate their ability to advance change on local issues.

Our evening awards reception will highlight each team’s work, as they present their ideas to 200+ local innovators and a judging panel of some of the Bay Area’s top civic and technological leaders.

November 9 — Drones TECHMEETING Powered By The Open Innovation Club

Foster business relationships between startups, corporations and VCs in the field of Drones. Bring visibility to the best of French-American technology and Innovation.

November 10 — Playcrafting SFO Fall Expo

80 games. 500 players. 1 night.

Over seventy game developers will be showing off their latest games one-on-one to a crowd of 500 people. For developers, this is a great opportunity to show off their games (finished or unfinished) and get direct feedback from players. For everyone else, it’s a unique opportunity to try out the biggest collection of games made in and around SF all in one place. Each game gets its own booth as players meet the developers and try out their games. Throw pizza into the mix and you get Playcrafting’s biggest event!

November 10 — Code for San Jose Civic Hack Night

We hold Civic Hack Nights in downtown San Jose twice a month. Typical hack nights have the following structure:

6:30-6:45pm: Mingling, chatting, eating pizza

6:45pm-7pm: Introductions and updates

7pm-8:45pm: Work on projects in teams or as individuals

8:45pm-9pm: Share progress with group and wrap-up

November 10 — AutoTech: Smart Cities

Smart Cities are hot! The US DoT just concluded it’s Smart Cities Challenge, where seven finalist cities were being considered. The DoT will spend $40 million, topped up by $10 million from Vulcan Ventures, and $90 million in funding directly from the city. The DoT noted that all finalist cities are likely to move forward on their own, so a push can also be expected in San Francisco, Denver, Austin, Pittsburgh, Kansas City MO, and Portland.

So what are the innovations we can expect to see develop?

  • New mobility concepts
  • Ride sharing, car sharing, ownership models
  • Public transit innovation
  • Smart infrastructure for traffic management
  • Autonomous transport, dedicated corridors for autonomy
  • Increased electrification
  • V2V communication
  • Big data and analytics
  • Last mile solutions

Our AC meeting will mimic the focus areas of the DoT Challenge, but we’ll talk about it also from the perspective of the existing automotive industry, and Silicon Valley-type technology vendors. It’s going to take a lot of partnerships and mutually beneficial inventions to make the smart city a success. Join 100+ Autotech Council members, OEMs, vendors, startups and VCs at our Smart Cities meeting to meet others working towards these goals.

November 14-16 — Social Innovation Summit

The Social Innovation Summit is a twice annual event taking place in Washington, DC and Silicon Valley, that represents a global convening of black swans and wayward thinkers. Where most bring together luminaries to explore the next big idea, we bring together those hungry not just to talk about the next big thing, but to build it.

November 16 — AMPLIFY Women’s Pitch Night Competition

AMPLIFY Women’s Pitch Night Competition will convene over 500+ innovative female business leaders, investors, engineers, and designers to explore the best in innovation, tech, and entrepreneurship.

Girls in Tech’s second annual half-day pitch competition is for early-stage technology startups for female entrepreneurs. A panel of seasoned tech professionals and investors will be judging based on the innovativeness and viability of the product or service. The competition will take place at in San Francisco on Tuesday, November 16, 2016 from 2:00 pm – 10:00 pm. The Winner will receive a cash prize along with additional resources such as office space and equipment to move their startup forward. Other prizes such as laptops, office resources and mentoring will be provided to all ten competition finalists.

November 17 — The Tech Awards

The Tech Awards, presented by Applied Materials, is a premiere event and program that celebrates those who are using technology to solve the world’s most pressing problems. Every year more than 1,200 esteemed innovators and members of the world community gather to celebrate the power of technology to address global challenges and benefit humanity. The black-tie gala is a signature program of The Tech Museum of Innovation.

November 21 — India – The Next 15 Years, How Tech Entrepreneurship Will Create a $10 T Economy

Guest speaker Mr. Mohandas Pai is a Padma Shri Awardee, Chairman of Manipal Global Education, and former CFO and Board Member at Infosys. He is also the co-founder of Akshaya Patra, the world’s largest midday meal program, and works actively with government and regulators on policy recommendations and guidelines.

November 30 — The Future of Customer Support: AI-Driven Automation

Join a panel of experts in AI and customer service for a provocative discussion about how new innovations in NLP, machine learning, and neural networks are being used to finally fix customer support. We’ll also discuss the cultural implications: what happens to human agents when bots take over? Who is responsible when things go wrong? How do we catalyze the cultural shift to AI-based support?
