August 3 — French Tech Hub Weekly Breakfast

How are things going for you? Signing a strategic deal? Struggling to raise funding? Hiring new talents? Enjoying your new life in San Francisco? We feel we don’t gather enough to exchange news and help each other. This is why we decided to organize a weekly breakfast every Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 am. While enjoying our cafe-croissant, you will be able to meet the new comers, the mentors and French Tech Hub’s team.

August 11 — How San Francisco Tech Companies Deal With Transportation 

While long-distance buses that head south from San Francisco to Silicon Valley have caught the media’s attention, growing tech companies within the city are also trying to solve transportation problems for their employees. Come learn about the solutions that these employers are developing, and how changes and investments in the city’s transportation system may be better for all of us.

August 11 — Drinks & Discourse — Jeff Tumlin 

The Bay Area continues to evolve thanks to advances in technology, passionate advocacy, and innovative thinking and development, with a handful of cutting-edge thinkers leading the charge. Come grab a beer and hear from the key people who are shaping the region’s future. In this installment of SPUR’s newest Young Urbanist series, we talk with Nelson Nygaard’s principal and director of strategy to hear his thoughts on the cities of tomorrow, his current role and the career path that took him there.

August 11 — Code for San Jose Civic Hack Night

We hold Civic Hack Nights in downtown San Jose twice a month. Typical hack nights have the following structure:

6:30-6:45pm: Mingling, chatting, eating pizza
6:45pm-7pm: Introductions and updates
7pm-8:45pm: Work on projects in teams or as individuals
8:45pm-9pm: Share progress with group and wrap-up

We welcome new members! At your first meeting, we’ll take time to introduce you to the group and help you identify a project to work on.

August 11 — Silicon Valley Bike Summit 2016

Please join us at the 6th Annual Bike Silicon Valley Summit, the region’s largest gathering of active transportation leaders and organizers from government, law enforcement, non-profit, and the public.

August 12-14 — DataDive! A weekend of data science for social impact

Data scientists, unite – the time is now! We gather on August 12-14 at Microsoft Reactor for a DataDive, a weekend of working with data to improve the world.

At a DataDive, volunteers meet over the course of a weekend to tackle data projects from mission-driven organizations. We assemble in teams of 15-20 data scientists, hacking in the name of good.

August 24 — Downtown San Leandro Comes Alive 

San Leandro is in the midst of a major transformation. With a new tech campus adjacent to the BART station, the stage is set for the city’s downtown to realize its potential. What are the opportunities and challenges for capitalizing on this change? In a city designed for the automobile, what creative ideas are needed to encourage people to live, work and play in downtown but leave the car at home?
