July 6 — The Bay Area Resilience by Design Challenge

July 18 — The Right Role for Technology in Cities

Since the beginning of urbanization, cities have been built based upon the technology available at the time. From aquaducts to telephone wires, these advances have enabled cities to expand, both physically and economically, while helping to improve the lives of their residents. Technology is not a panacea, however, and must be seen as a tool rather than a means to an end. Join entrepreneur, author, investor and former government official Gabe Klein for a discussion about how technology can create incredible opportunities to remake our cities, while simultaneously providing enormous benefits for its citizens.

July 18 — Coding Drop-In Lab

Do you want to learn how to code, design, and overall get more tech savvy? You’re not alone! Through sfpl.org you can access Treehouse, an online training platform that teaches you coding, career skills and entrepreneurship.

This drop-in lab will support you while you learn at your own pace and work with peers and a facilitator who can help when you get stuck.

No need to bring anything except an active mind ready to learn & practice. Be ready to jump right in and ask questions as you need to.

In response, numerous groups have been piloting projects that give low-income families more money to purchase fruits and vegetables, which in turn supports local farmers’ markets and grocery stores. Come for a discussion of this innovative new strategy to improve healthy food access for all.
