Last week, the Computer History Museum hosted a fascinating panel discussion with members of the U.S. Digital Service (USDS). The USDS, which was created by the Obama Administration less than two years ago, is comprised of (mostly young) people with technology expertise who can rethink, design and help implement how technology is used throughout the federal government. Four members, Mikey Dickerson, Lisa Gelobter, Hillary Hartley, and Haley Van Dyck of the USDS spoke on the panel, sharing insights about everything from fixing healthcare.gov to the transition from Silicon Valley to Washington, DC. The USDS has already had a massive impact in numerous agencies across the federal government. From significant cost savings to a greatly decreasing the number of repetitive forms and procedures, the USDS is focused on solving big government challenges through technology, and the results speak for themselves. Kudos to the whole panel for an interesting and informative discussion.
