On May 8th, Microsoft hosted its first YouthSpark Live event at its Mountain View campus. The event focused on the needs of local community college students aged 18-24. Students participated in resume-writing and interview workshops, entrepreneurship challenges and one-on-one networking with Microsoft employees.

Highlights of the event included guest speaker Gary Kremen, engineer and founder match.com and Clean Power Finance; guest speaker Dave Cortese, President of the Board ofSupervisors for Santa Clara County; and keynote Speaker and Year Up Alumnus Jay Hammonds, who inspired the audience with his journey to his current career.
Microsoft partnered with two national YouthSpark partners for the day: Year Up Bay Area facilitated a resume and interview skills workshop, and Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) hosted an entrepreneurship challenge based on the Microsoft-sponsored World Series of Innovation. Students learned about the available YouthSpark Hub resources and how to create a website portfolio with Azure. To add to the day’s fun, a few lucky participants won raffle prizes including a Microsoft Band, HP 7 Tablet, Xbox One, and Surface 3.
