SVGIves3

Tomorrow, May 14, 2015, tens of thousands of regular and first-time Bay Area residents will bike to work for the 21st Annual Bike to Work Day, part of National Bike Month.

The day is a vision of what the morning commute should look like: parents and children, teachers, restaurant workers, politicians, CEOs, all doing the unimaginable – enjoying their trips to work and school. With more than one million Bay Area residents living within five miles of their workplace, the day is a great opportunity for people experience this ideal distance for bicycling.

More than 80 Energizer Stations throughout popular routes in the nine Bay Area Counties will give people on bikes a chance to stop and get a snack, a tote bag, goodies, SV Gives Image2and a few words of encouragement. People can also pledge to ride on May 14 through the regional website and automatically be entered into a drawing for prizes.

The Bike Away From Work Bash, 6-8pm, at the Roosevelt Community Center (901 East Santa Clara St) in San Jose will give bike riders a chance to celebrate their ride with food, drinks, beer from Gordon Biersch, and live music. There will be a raffle for a Brooklyn Bicycle Bike and the chance to pick up the exclusive 2015 Bike to Work Day t-shirt.

Will you be participating? Share your photos to our Twitter handle (@BikeSV) or on Instagram (@BikeSiliconValley) and use the hashtag #BTWD #BikeMonth to be part of the national conversation!

Presented in part by the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, the day and month is a chance
to spotlight the SVBC’s mission of helping create a healthy community, environment and economy through bicycling. This humble writer has taken this mission to heart as a new addition to the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, and you are welcome to read about my first experience riding my bike to work, which happened just recently.
