Special Olympics USA Games and Xbox host first-ever video gaming tournament

It has been great to see so much recent momentum to help create a more accessible and inclusive world. Last week, we announced the Xbox Adaptive Controller and mentioned Global Accessibility Awareness Day is every day at Microsoft.

Today, we’re thrilled to share that Xbox and the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games will host the first-ever pilot video gaming tournament at the USA Games in Seattle. The Xbox Gaming Tournament at the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games will take place on Monday, July 2 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the Lyceum room in the University of Washington Husky Union Building.

Microsoft has partnered with Special Olympics since 2014 and we are proud to be the premier partner of the Games. We share the belief that individuals, organizations, and communities are stronger when everyone can contribute their talents and skills. Adding video gaming to the USA Games this year will extend the opportunity for more people to participate and extend the spirit of inclusion. As the City of Seattle welcomes 4,000 athletes and coaches from across the country to compete in the USA Games, it is great to see the community come together to demonstrate the importance of creating a region of inclusion.

We hope you join us for the Opening Ceremonies on July 1, cheer on the athletes throughout the event, and check out the new Xbox Gaming Tournament at the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games!
