You can now shop Microsoft Store with the support of an American Sign Language associate.

Authored by: Jessica Mercuriali, Sr Accessibility Marketing Manager

We’re excited to share that Microsoft Store is now offering American Sign Language (ASL) support for the deaf and hard of hearing community, making its online experience more accessible. Microsoft employees who communicate using ASL are now available to support microsoft.com customers as they explore and purchase products and seek order support. This same team also offers technical support in ASL for Windows, Office, and Xbox.

Seamless, Easy to Access Support

Available to our Microsoft Store visitors in the United States, ASL support is available Monday–Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm PT. Customers can easily access the service by selecting the “Talk to an Expert” feature on microsoft.com, which now includes ASL as a standard menu offering. From there, customers are connected directly to a video call with ASL support.

Putting Customers at the Center

Adding ASL to the languages we support at Microsoft Store extends our commitment to best serve each customer. Reflecting on the new ASL offering, Microsoft Chief Marketing Officer Chris Capossela said, “We’re always seeking new ways to empower our customers, and this is a great example of how we’re reimagining our digital experiences with inclusion and accessibility at the forefront.”

American Sign Language is often considered the first language for many in the U.S. deaf and hard of hearing community. Providing shopping and support assistance in ASL adds to our multi-lingual support for customers.

“This is my first language, and this is wonderful. Thanks for helping me find the right device for my needs!” Anonymous customer feedback after using the ASL Support on microsoft.com

Adding ASL support extends an inclusive digital transformation that began years ago. We take pride in setting a high bar, going beyond compliance to retain a leadership position in our efforts to be inclusive and accessible. From creating a website that is conformant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, to continuing to be intentional and innovative in our approach.

We are energized by our continued focus on inclusion and innovation and are committed to continuing our efforts to make our site accessible to all.

We look forward to customers using Microsoft Store ASL support and look forward to taking your call. To learn more about the Microsoft approach to accessibility, visit microsoft.com/accessibility.
