Microsoft Announces $50,000 Grant to Road Map Project for Youth

Today, Microsoft General Counsel and Executive Vice President of Legal and Corporate Affairs Brad Smith met with South Seattle and South King County school leaders at the Community Center for Education Results (CCER) and announced a $50,000 grant demonstrating Microsoft’s commitment to building a strong, cradle-to-career educational system for the Puget Sound region and the entire state of Washington.

The grant will fund a new CCER civic initiative called The Road Map Project, which is aimed at assisting the youth of low-income communities of South Seattle and South King County from cradle to career. The Project’s goal is to double the number of students in the region on track to graduate from college or earn a career credential by 2020.

At Microsoft, we’ve talked a lot recently about the global opportunity divide, the widening gap between those who have access to the technology, quality education and the skills and connections needed to be successful – and those who do not.

And we know that this opportunity divide is present even in our own backyard. It’s why we invest tens of millions of dollars each year in programs to improve outcomes in pre-school, K-12, higher education and beyond.
