How deep neural networks technology taught Windows Phone to understand you better

Your Windows Phone now understands your voice commands faster and with greater accuracy, because it has learned to think more like you, thanks to new deep neural networks (DNN) technology from Microsoft Research.

Inspired by the workings of the human brain, DNN technology enables a computer to recognize and learn from patterns in a similar way to how biological systems process data. Bing took MSR’s breakthrough DNN research, matched it up with large datasets from its index, and taught Windows Phone to be a better listener.

The result? Voice recognition at twice the speed, and with 15 percent greater accuracy.

A phone that thinks more like you – now that’s smart.
