Cell was commissioned Alpha-ville for the 2011 festival, this interactive installation plays with and proposes alternative landscapes in the technological ether surrounding our everyday movements.
The result is a mesmerizing display that culls data from online profiles to create a display that reflects your online persona. It’s an artistic way to explore the blending of the physical and digitals worlds. Cell currently includes a series of fictional personas, one of which is applied to a user as they approach the installation – though I imagine it could be setup to allow you to connect to your actual online persona. That has some pretty interesting applications from a marketing and branding point of view.
You can see more behind the scenes videos on the work to build Cell at installcell.com where James explains how the team used four Kinect sensors to enable an installation that could support 8 simultaneous users.
