Microsoft at the Shops at Prudential Center in Boston held an exciting event Thursday evening in honor of National Entrepreneurship Week. Attendees included budding entrepreneurs, local college students, and representatives from Emerson College, MassChallenge, and Venture Café’s StartHub.
My colleagues Joe Dellolio, Business Sales Specialist, and Joshua Drew, Technical Evangelist, introduced the audience to Microsoft small business solutions. Keynote speaker Gilad Rosenzweig is the Founder & Executive Director of Smarter in the City, Roxbury’s first high tech startup accelerator. Gilad spoke about the three types of entrepreneurs and illuminated paths to founding a startup. Next Gilad joined a panel of local entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship experts. Cathy Waters is the Director of Emerson Launch, a free two-year accelerator for student entrepreneurs. Jack Kelly is the founder of iRecover, a social network that connects addicts, recovering addicts, and families of those afflicted with each other in order to expedite the recovery process. Vicky Wu Davis is the Founder and Executive Director of Youth CITIES, a platform for cultivating youth entrepreneurship. The panel discussed the startup ecosystem in Boston, diversifying startup culture, educating future entrepreneurs, using ideas to make an impact, and their definitions of success. Finally, our guests took some time to network and ask questions of the panelists.
