Partners: 5 steps to launching your social media strategy in 2015

If one of your business resolutions for 2015 is to embrace social media — but you’re not quite sure how to go about doing it — Shantel Gascoigne, Microsoft’s digital content manager, helps break it down in five steps for you.

Among the things to think about, Gascoigne writes: How to pick your network. “You want to meet your audience where they are. That means, you can’t expect them to come to you, you need to incorporate your content into their daily activities.” If you’re just getting going on this, she recommends using only one or two networks for starters. Pew Research “has a great resource on demographics for key social networking platforms that can help with this,” she writes.

Another step is to be prepared for the two-way conversations that happen on social media. Partner Dux Raymond Sy has some great time-saving tips on engagement. “Having a plan in place for checking responses, questions or comments from your audience will allow you to capitalize on those opportunities to continue a conversation and build relationships,” Gascoigne writes. “That is where the real magic of social media happens.”
