Developers: Add text recognition in apps with Microsoft OCR library for Windows Runtime

If you want to easily add text recognition capabilities in your Windows Phone 8 (or 8.1) and Windows 8.1 Store apps, you can now do so with the Microsoft OCR library for Windows Runtime, which has been released as a NuGet package.

With optical character recognition technology, you can copy text from images and search text in images. The library runs entirely on client, supports 21 languages and enables processing images from various sources – camera, local file or network. When you add the OCR library to an application, you control how your application interprets the returned text. For example, you can recognize patterns such as email addresses, phone numbers and URLs; then the app can launch common actions such as sending an email, making a phone call or visiting a website.

Head over to Building Apps for Windows to find out how to get the release and run OCR on images through code snippets.
