Each week, we bring you a new app recommendation from our colleagues. This Staff App Pick comes from Brian Moore, director of partner business evangelism in Developer and Platform Evangelism at Microsoft.
For a while now, one of my most frequently used travel tools has been the LiveATC app for Windows 8, so I was really excited when I found out the app is now available for use on Windows Phone devices.
LiveATC for Windows Phone has all the great features found in the Windows app, in the most portable form factor I have: my Nokia Lumia 1020. I can still listen in on live conversations between pilots and air traffic controllers from nearby airports and find out what’s going on around the U.S. – especially useful when I am stuck waiting for a connection.
The LiveATC network is a massive network of streaming audio feeds focused solely on aviation, and currently covers more than 700 airports around the world with more than 1,000 different audio feeds. And it’s growing daily.
Using that data, the app provides airport and radar maps, and allows me to pin my favorite airports to the Start screen on my Lumia 1020. Also, as an added bonus, if you bought the app on Windows 8, you also own the app on Windows Phone thanks to the new capabilities of the Dev Center.
If you travel a lot (or are stuck in an airport with a long layover now), be sure to check out the LiveATC app in the Windows Phone Store.
