New service tiers for SQL Databases on Azure now available

At last month’s Build conference, Microsoft announced a number of improvements coming to SQL Databases on Azure including: an improved 99.95 percent service level agreement, support for databases up to 500GB in size, self-service restore capability, and new Active Geo Replication support that lets you run SQL Databases in multiple Azure regions around the world.

Scott Guthrie, executive vice president of the Cloud and Enterprise Group, writes on his ScottGu Blog that all of those features are now available to start using in preview form and that you can choose which service tier works best for you.

You can sign up for the preview by visiting the Preview center and clicking the “Try Now” button on the “New Service Tiers for SQL Databases” option, he writes. “You can then choose which Azure subscription you wish to enable them for. Once enabled, you can immediately start creating new Basic, Standard or Premium SQL Databases.”
