“Titanfall,” which launched Tuesday in the U.S. for Xbox One, is winning lots of props and praise for its refreshing take on the first-person shooter genre.

“’Titanfall’ is a leap forward for shooters, a game that combines the vibrant and new with the tried and true to create something special,” writes Chris Watters of GameSpot. Matt Miller, in his review for Game Informer, says “Titanfall” is “a fitting introduction to what the new generation of multiplayer gaming can achieve.” Arthur Gies, writing for Polygon, also zeroes in on the amount of player freedom in his review, saying “It all comes naturally, and instead of feeling like work, ‘Titanfall’ feels like a playground.”
