The 2014 awards season came to a close last night with the 86th annual Academy Awards, and Bing was right there from the red carpet to the wins to monitor the pulse of viewers and fans to see the most searched moments throughout the evening.
While Cate Blanchett and Lupita Nyong’o made a big splash with their gowns, it was Charlize Theron’s black Dior dress that caused the largest spike in searches of all the leading ladies’ red carpet looks.
Immediately following Jared Leto’s acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor, searches for “Jared Leto’s Mom” spiked significantly, in a nod to his earnest thank you to his mother.
Host Ellen DeGeneres also prompted some searching frenzies last night, from handing out pizza to collecting cash with Pharrell’s hat, to her Twitter-breaking, record-breaking, spontaneous group selfie with Hollywood’s A-list. That moment caused one of the night’s largest spikes in searches.
