Staff App Pick: Plex for Windows and Windows Phone 8

Each week, we bring you new app recommendations from our colleagues. This week’s Tuesday Staff App Pick comes from Ryan Lowdermilk, a Technical Evangelist in Developer & Platform Evangelism at Microsoft.

For the home theater lover, the Plex app for Windows and Windows Phone 8 is a must. We have four kids, all at various ages. With that many young ones, we have a huge collection of DVDs.

Backing up your DVD collection and hosting them on a Plex server is a great way to keep the collection safe and easily available. Once I have all the DVDs backed up on a Plex server, I simply hand any Windows or Windows Phone device to one of our children and they can easily navigate our Plex personal library and watch any of the available videos, on-demand.

The Plex interface is absolutely gorgeous, easy to navigate and feature rich. You combine Plex with Netflix and you have the ultimate entertainment library!

Plex is available now in the Windows Store and Windows Phone Store.
