Each week, we bring you a new app recommendation from one of our colleagues. This week’s Staff App Pick comes from Jon Williams, a senior marketing manager at Microsoft.
It’s hard to imagine a world without YouTube. Young or old, who doesn’t enjoy a good clip of dancing cats, laughing babies or whatever other Internet memes or popular this week?
Metrotube (from Lazyworm Applications Ltd.) delivers a beautifully designed YouTube player experience that is my personal favorite across any platform. The original Windows Phone app (screenshots above) has been around for a while now, and the publisher has launched a new version in the Windows Store (screenshot below) that really takes advantage of the additional screen real estate on tablets.
I love the phone app in particular because it offers many features that aren’t available in your average YouTube apps such as pinning favorite videos to your start screen (great for identifying kid-friendly clips), allowing audio playback to continue even when your device is locked (great for listening in the car), and super easy playlist and subscription management.
If you own a Windows Phone or Windows PC or tablet and enjoy YouTube, you seriously need to stop reading this review and just go download the apps right away. And if you don’t still don’t believe me, how about more than 10,000 positive reviews and 4.5 stars in the Windows Phone Store!
