If you grew up in the early ‘90s, chances are good that you were a fan of TMNT (and don’t pretend like you don’t know what that stands for). You knew the animated series’ theme song by heart. Probably still do. That’s turtle power!
But the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles weren’t just known for their adventures on TV. They were also part of the glory days of arcade brawlers, and they’re looking to bring it back. With “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,” which launches Wednesday on Xbox Live, Red Fly Studio and Activision Publishing Inc., are delivering a new chapter in the heroic reptiles’ legacy.
Gameplay implements modern mechanics but maintains the classic beat-‘em-up feel of its arcade predecessor, leaving no room for doubt of the developers’ love and respect for the franchise. The Turtles wisecrack and shoot one liners back and forth in the heat of battle, with a backdrop of gritty and realistic art direction.
Just as on the original animated television show, each Turtle has his strengths and weaknesses. Michelangelo is the fastest of the bunch, but has a weaker attack. Donatello packs the biggest punch and has the most range, but he’s also the slowest, as he analyzes his every move. Best of all, you can truly play as Team TMNT in seamless four-player online multiplayer and execute team combo moves in relentless combat.
So follow Leonardo’s lead and download the game on Wednesday! Xbox Wire has more information.
