Update, April 2 – Thanks to generous donations from the Seattle community, the fireworks show is back on. Microsoft is delighted to join forces with Starbucks and other community leaders to ensure the continuation of Seattle’s long-standing tradition of the annual Lake Union fireworks show.
Every year, thousands and thousands of families converge upon Seattle’s Lake Union for a spectacular Fourth of July celebration. This year, however, it appeared that the annual fireworks celebration might not happen, due to the loss of the event’s former sponsor.
Earlier today, Starbucks and Microsoft announced that they are joining other community leaders in an effort to raise the funds necessary to support the Lake Union fireworks celebration.
Microsoft and Starbucks will each provide $125,000 in funds – half of the overall cost of the event – to match contributions raised throughout the community. We encourage other businesses in the greater Seattle community, as they are able, to consider joining in this effort by contributing online at http://bit.ly/seafourth.
The fireworks on Lake Union are a beloved tradition for Seattle and the entire region, so we’re pleased to join Starbucks in jump-starting this community effort to save the show.
